Slip and Fall Lawyers

Slip and fall accidents are the most common claims in occupiers' liability lawsuits in Ottawa and across Eastern Ontario cities such as Cornwall and Kingston.

Occupiers' liability law involves the legal responsibility of owners and occupiers to take care that people entering on their property are reasonably safe.  Some of the most common causes of such slip and injuries include: an icy pathway or sidewalk, loose or uneven stairs, spilled liquid on the floor, or failing to post proper warnings after floors are mopped.

When you slip or trip and fall, the result can be serious injuries; such as broken bones, neck and back injuries and brain injuries, among other things.

A slip and fall injury can result in serious impairments, causing lost wages and other financial losses and medical/rehabilitation expenses not covered by OHIP; not to mention significant pain and suffering.

After The Accident

Following a slip and fall injury, we urge injured victims to seek immediate medical attention as soon as possible.  It is also important to get as much physical evidence of the incident as possible, including pictures of the accident site and injuries and the names and contact information of witnesses.

It is not uncommon for slip and fall accident victims to be offered settlement cheques from property owners or their insurance company soon after the injury, in exchange for signing a release.  Accident victims may also be asked to give statements to insurance claim adjusters without considering how their statement could be used against them.  We advise against accepting any compensation, signing any documents or giving a statement to an insurance adjuster until after you first speak to an injury lawyer.
